Education, Prosperity, and Justice in Fighting Terrorism
(An effort to look after Islam)
All this time, we are busy discussing Terrorism. No matter who we are, all people are busy taking care of Terrorism problem. Everyone tries to solve this issue. Nevertheless, there is also debate on who is wrong or who is right. Sometimes they blame Islam as radical ideology. Islam enjoins on the Follower to do Jihad. They misunderstand about that.

All this time, we are busy discussing Terrorism. No matter who we are, all people are busy taking care of Terrorism problem. Everyone tries to solve this issue. Nevertheless, there is also debate on who is wrong or who is right. Sometimes they blame Islam as radical ideology. Islam enjoins on the Follower to do Jihad. They misunderstand about that.
That charge is incorrect. As a Muslim, I do not disagree with you. Jihad is the way of Muslim’s life to embattle all dangerous things for the follower and religion progress. It means that Jihad should not be done in war. Embattling fatuity and destitution belong to Jihad. Therefore, Islam never teaches the Violence toward the Follower.
We always debate about who is the wrong or the right. We never think why it could happen. We have to know what is the reason which makes someone become a terrorist. In Indonesia, the radical ideology still grows rapidly. After Bali Bomb Accident I, many terrorism actions happened thereupon. It proves that terrorism recruitment is easy to do. Not only in Indonesia, but also in other developing countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, India, Pakistan etc. Then, why the terrorism grows rapidly in developing countries?
I live in Wonogiri, Central Java, Indonesia. My neighboring town, Sukoharjo, there has ever been several terrorist groups. They have a low education level in average. Economic condition in my town is still facing a lot of problem, such as unemployment, poverty, and foul of living standard. I heard the man who wants to be a terrorist will go to heaven. Truly, that is not only the reason why someone wants to be a terrorist, but the recruiter also offers money for their family. They have no choice except they have to receive it because of their family. This is the real condition. So, Islam is not the doer, but an irresponsible man who exploits this condition is.
Beside that, justice is one of influential thing in terrorist recruitment. In my country, the main problems of justice are corruption, collusion, and nepotism. These make justice can be sold. State’s finance which is given for people is gone because of corruption. Therefore, people doesn’t feel benefit from state’s finance, whilst it is prepared for prosperity of our people.
We are also disappointed by developed countries. We are disappointed with their treatment toward us. Developed countries tend to exploit developing countries’ natural capital. They never give something as restitution for people in developing countries. This is a reality of International Injustice. Developed countries are getting wealthier, but the developing countries are getting poorer. Even, United Nations has no power because the Big 5 handle everything. I remember the lyric of Michael Heart’s song says as follow.
Women and children alike
Murdered and massacred night after night
While the so-called leaders of countries afar
Debated on who’s wrong or right
That lyric implies something, which is the truth of the Leaders. They always debate on unimportant things. Talk more, do less. There is other example of International Injustice, like Israel-Palestine. Everybody knows that Israel was wrong, but nobody wants to punish Israel.
My vision about peace is justice (in all sectors) for all nation-state. As a youth, we have to be sensitive with our environment. If one of our neighbors was in trouble, we help them as much as possible. We need fast and precise action, no matter what the problem is. But, the main program in coping with terrorism consists of three things; education, prosperity, and justice. Can a youth do that? Yes, they can. They can start by simple step. For example, they make a little group of children from their environs. Then, they give lesson. That’s included in education program.
I think if we do not take steps, this issue will be long draw out. I am disappointed with international society. They always debate on who is the wrong or the right. We must take care our environment. Terrorism is a dangerous thing like cancer, which can gnaw our body little by little. Let’s fight against terrorism as soon as possible.
